More Information: The 2024 Crash Collection South African Shiraz showcases the bold yet refined character of Syrah grown on shale soils in South Africa’s Coastal Region. Carefully hand-sorted fruit was destemmed prior to fermentation, with a small portion of stems reintroduced in select lots to add aromatic complexity and structure. Fermentation took place in large tanks with regular pump-overs and extended maceration to develop color, texture, and depth before the wine was matured for 12 months in French oak barrels and traditional wooden vats. The result is a modern expression of Shiraz that balances vibrant New World fruit with classic Old World spice, reflecting both the character of the vineyard and the thoughtful craftsmanship behind the wine.

The Region

Western Cape
South Africa

The overarching Geographical Unit corresponding to the Western Cape province, containing the overwhelming majority of South Africa’s vineyards across the Coastal Region, Breede River Valley, Cape South Coast, Klein Karoo, and Olifants River. Its Mediterranean climate — hot dry summers, wet winters, and cooling breezes off two oceans — supports enormous diversity, from sturdy Rhône-style reds to crisp maritime whites. Chenin Blanc (locally “Steen”) is the most-planted variety; a “Western Cape” appellation typically signals a wine blended across multiple areas within the province.
